Steps to Become a Data Scientist

Data Science has become one of the most demanded jobs in today’s digital world. “Every organization is increasingly realizing that in order to maximize their benefit they required the magic of data science”. And here the role of Data Scientist comes into play, they deals with the data in order to assist companies for better decision making, promotional offers and predictive analytics for any business.

“The Goal is to turn data into information, and information into Insights”

Go through these steps to achieve your dream job-

First: Ask the Question to yourself – Do I really enjoy solving problems? Am I intrigued by statistics and programming? Am I willing to constantly upskills? If answer of these questions is yes that mark my word you will become a proficient data scientist.

Second: Make sure you have a Qualifying Degree because data science is a highly quantitative field that requires a higher degree. According to a research – 88% of the Data Scientists have a Master Degree and 46% have PhDs.

Third: To start your career as data scientist you must possess technical skills as well as non-techincal skills mentioned below

  • Learn statistics, probability and mathematical analysis- Some of the important topics you need to master as a data scientist are: Descriptive and Inferential Statistics, Linear Algebra, Calculus, Discrete Math, and Optimization Theory.
  • Good Knowledge of Programming language- Programming is the most important skills, You must be skilled at least one programming language. Some of the essential programming languages and tools that you must know as a data scientist are-
    • Python: It is the first choice of data scientist because of its versatility, scalability and code-readability.   • Business and Domain Knowledge- As a data scientist you are going to assist your organization for making smarter decisions and to predict outcomes. hence you should have a good business knowledge and predictive analytics skills.

Fourth: Go for Data science certifications- certifications are proof of your skills. Some of the top data science certifications are-

  • Perform exploratory data analysis
  • Process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data
  • Identify trends in data and predictions
  • Generate insights using machine learning techniques.
